FREE, fun filled, informative day for all the family.

13th Feb 2009

Bro Ddyfi Communities First are to hold a Keep Safe & Well Day at Bro Ddyfi Leisure Centre, Machynlleth on Wednesday 18th February between 10am and 3pm.

This will be a completely free, fun filled and informative day for all the family, and will be similar to the very well attended event held back in July 2006 when over 300 people attended a multi-agency exhibition with a timetable of free activities and demonstrations.

The event will show individuals what services and activities there are available to them within their community that can improve and maintain their health and wellbeing, and is being organised by Bro Ddyfi Communities First in response to Health Challenge Wales, national focus for better health in Wales.

There will be a wide range of information on hand regarding the services available from the council and other agencies, as well information and advice on issues such as income, housing, healthy lifestyles, social care and public safety.

This free fun filled day for all the family includes a Prize Raffle, Healthy Food, Bouncy Castle, Face Painting, Wall Climbing, Swimming, Soft Play Area, Bowls, Children’s Dance Tuition & Performance, Buggy Push / Walking / Bike Ride (Bring sturdy shoes & sensible clothing inc waterproofs), Yoga/Pilates for Children & Over 50’s, Slippers for the Elderly, an opportunity to sign up for a Home Fire Safety Audit, Low Energy Light Bulbs & Power Down Plugs, Electric Blanket testing, Benefits Advice, and lots of other free activities, demonstrations and advice.

There will also be an opportunity to have a look at some Red Cross vehicles and to have a chat with the carpenter on the Bobby Van (Dyfed – Powys Police) who will be on hand to provide advice to the elderly and other vulnerable members of the community with regard to property crime.

Cyril Evans, the Bro Ddyfi Communities First Co-ordinator said "In rural area like Bro Ddyfi it's sometimes difficult for people to access information and to find out what's going on locally. We are very pleased to be able to work with Health Challenge Wales and Powys County Council on what should be a really worthwhile and informative day for the whole community.”

The outdoor activities will of course depend on weather and might be subject to change.
