Bro Ddyfi Celebrates!

22nd Dec 2008

Nearly two hundred adults and children attended a free drop-in Community Celebration Day held at Bro Ddyfi Leisure Centre, Machynlleth on the 6th December.

The event was jointly organised by Bro Ddyfi Communities First and the Bro Ddyfi Integrated Children’s Centre, with the main focus of the day being the official launch of the new Communities First Local Community Directory together with a celebration of Children, Young People, and Families in Bro Ddyfi.

Communities First is a major flagship Welsh Assembly Government programme tackling poverty and the regeneration of local communities.  The Bro Ddyfi CF area, established in late 2002, is made up of the four wards of Machynlleth, Cadfarch, Glantwymyn and Llanbrynmair, all of which are within Powys.

The Bro Ddyfi Integrated Children’s Centre is part of the Powys Children and Young People’s Partnership county wide project that is funded by the Big Lottery.Diane Jones, ICC’s Development Officer who is also a member of the Bro Ddyfi Communities First Partnership said “This event has been a great success and demonstrates the value of organisations working in partnership for the good of the community”.

Amongst the organisations and groups who exhibited and who carry out such excellent work in the Powys area of Bro Ddyfi were Action for Children, Twf, Mentro Allan, Powys Training, Open university, Youth Forum (Llais Ieuenctid Dyfi), Careers Wales, Dyfi Transport Forum, Cambrian Railways Partnership,  Coleg Powys and of course Bro Ddyfi Communities First and the Integrated Children’s Centre.

There was a good range of free activities for children and families in the Leisure Centre, which included Face Painting, Bouncy Castle, Soft Play Area, Christmas card making Workshop, Neck, Shoulder, and Hand Massage, First Aid Demonstrations and a Treasure Hunt.

Cyril Breeze Evans, Bro Ddyfi Communities First Co-ordinator said ‘‘our administrator Lynwen Jones should be complimented on the excellent work she has done in gathering information and completely redesigning the Communities First Local Community Directory. The Directory can also be accessed by visiting our website www.commfirstpowys.org.uk , clicking on Bro Ddyfi followed by Local Directory”.

If there is any local group, organisation, or association who make a contribution to community life, that is run by or for residents of this community who are not included in this edition, and who wish to be included in any future editions, or indeed immediately on the web version, or if there is anyone who would like to receive a hard copy of the Directory, then please get in touch with the Communities First Office on 01654 700315.

The joint organisers of the event, ICC Co-ordinator Helen Jones and Lyneth Davies the CF Development Officer, would like to thank the Community Groups who exhibited and held workshops, as well as all those who generously gave up their time to help out on the day, including the Bro Ddyfi Leisure Centre and Coffee Shop staff, and members of the Youth Forum who acted as Stewards.
